We all face challenges at work, but how does someone know if they’re just facing a difficult situation or if it really is time to move on? It’s a tough question to answer. Working through tough situations can make you a better employee and help advance your career. But sometimes, no matter how hard you try, things are simply not going to get better. Here are five big signs that it is time for you to get a new job.

1. You Don't Want to Go

If you frequently wake up in the morning and seriously don't want to go to work, it's probably time to find a new job. While it's true that there are some days where you'd rather be doing something else, such as relaxing on the beach, it's important that you feel fulfilled by your job. If you don't, it's time to think about what would make you happier in terms of career progression and personal satisfaction.

2. Unfulfilled Promises

If your boss frequently promises you raises and promotions but never seems to follow through, it's time to move on to a different employer that better values your contributions. The vague promise of a raise should not be used to motivate you to work. It's better to work for a company that's honest and gives you appropriate incentives.

3. You're Sick More Often

If you have been getting sick more often lately, it might be because of the stress of your job. This may come in the form of a headache or cold symptoms. If the stress level at your job is enough to make you sick, it's worth looking for a different one.

4. You've Stopped Learning

Ideally, your career should be a progression. At each job, you should be learning new skills and moving forward. If you've stopped learning at your current job and don't feel that there's much more room to grow, it can be valuable to your overall career to find the next, more challenging role.

5. Working for the Money

You need money to survive and pay your bills. However, working 40+ hours a week can be extremely taxing if you're only doing it for the money. You'll have more energy and satisfaction if you work at something you love or for a cause you truly support.
